Children’s Theatre’s Grand Day began with a pre-show patron lunch and a performance of Lyle the Crocodile, about a loveable bathtub-living, caviar-eating, saxophone-playing crocodile.
When next-door-neighbor Mr. Grumps wants his owners to ship Lyle to the zoo, his family and friends have to save the day.
The play was followed by a carnival of games, rides, a petting zoo, tattoos, face painting, inflatables, fun with the cast and drinks and snacks for everyone.
Artists Ginger Oglesby, Lisa McReynolds, Adrienne Outlaw, Mary Gauthier and others painted crocodile eggs, which were given as patron favors and also were auctioned online.
All proceeds of Grand Day help deserving children, families and teachers so they can experience the theatre’s performances, camps and classes.

Staff from the shelter brought puppies that everyone found adorable. They are among the many dogs and cats available for adoption at the Nashville Humane Association.
The huge silent auction offered a Kraus painting, a dog made totally from recycled materials from Pembroke Antiques, 12 personal training sessions from Takes 2 Fitness, Harlow statement necklace from Bella Bridesmaids, Kor Professional Whitening System from Iroquois Dentistry, Nashville Symphony tickets and much more.
Everyone enjoyed a meal of butter lettuce, local kale, grilled chicken, Feta cheese and raspberries, with peach mousse for dessert on tables with white cloths and white and green centerpieces.
The event included the presentation of the Julia Colton Award to Tonya Mitchem Grindon, a longtime supporter of the shelter. The luxury fashions in the show were by JAMIE, which has participated in this event for many years.
