Registrations open for West Nashville fall sports

On-line Registration is open at www.wnsl.org for the West Nashville Sports League 2010 flag football and fall baseball seasons.

Both flag football and Baseball seasons kick off on Saturday, Sept. 11 and will end on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Weekly Saturday games will be held at Warner Park and at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ Baseball Fields.

The WNSL Flag Football League is part of the NFL Flag League and is open for boys and girls grades K-6 and consists of the following divisions: 1A - K/Pre-1st/1st, 2A - 2nd, 3A -3rd, 4A - 4th and 5A - 5th/6th.

Fall Baseball is open to girls and boys ages 5-15 and consists of the following divisions: Wookies- 5/6 yrs, Rookies- 7/8 yrs, Minors- 9/10 yrs, Majors- 11/12 yrs and Prep- 13/14/15 yrs. Registration for both sports closes on Aug. 22.

Cute and Comfy Shoes hosts consignment event

Cute and Comfy Shoes and Zelda will hold a consignment event Thursday, July 29 through Saturday, July 31 at the store located at 4100 Hillsboro Circle.

The shoes that do not sell will benefit Soles4Souls and the clothes will go to Graceworks in Franklin.

Hodge House event travels back in time

Warner Parks' Hodge House, whose log core is "one of the oldest remaining dwellings in Davidson Co" will be the site and subject of a free public lecture by Senior Architectural Historian Robbie Jones from 6:30 - 8 p.m. on Friday, July 30.

Environmental Director of The Warner Park Nature Center Heather Gallagher will talk about "The Hodge House--Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow." The Hodge House was winner of the Metro Historical Commission's 2009 Preservation Award

The Hodge House is accessible but has no running water and no electric wiring. Guests may bring flashlights, although the yard and interior of the house will have natural light.

The Hodge House is located near the intersection of Chickering Road and Old Hickory Boulevard and can be reached through the park's Chickering Road entrance. A shuttle will run from the Chickering Road entrance to the back of the house.

Nashville Soccer United will have an open house for boys and girls U6 to U12 from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 31 at the Eakin Elementary School soccer field located on the corner of Fairfax and 24th Avenue.

Galleries open doors for monthly ArtEast event

This month’s edition of ArtEast, formally known as the East Nashville Art Stroll, will be held Saturday, July 31.

Several East Nashville Galleries and small businesses have banded together to create this fun evening celebrating the arts. This is an ongoing endeavor to feature visual and performing artists every month.

Aug. 1

School of Nashville Ballet hosts open house

The School of Nashville Ballet will host an Open House from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1 at the Martin Center for Dance, home of Nashville Ballet. The public is invited to meet faculty, register for classes and tour the dance studio.

Spell’s Dancewear will be available to outfit dance students. Each student registering will receive a complimentary T-shirt.

Adults are invited to attend two additional open houses on Monday, Aug. 16 and Wednesday, Aug. 18.

Nashville Ballet has two locations: Martin Center for Dance at 3630 Redmon St. and a Brentwood campus at 500 Wilson Pk. Circle, Suite 119.

Jazz Series returns to Nashville Jazz Workshop

The Nashville Jazz Workshop will present the Contemporary Jazz Series Sunday, Aug. 1

The series features vocalist Dara Tucker.

The event is held the first Sunday of the month in the Jazz Cave at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, and is hosted by Rahsaan Barber.

Admission to the 7 p.m. performance is $10. Reservations are not needed.

Artists host exhibition at Janet Levine March gallery

Kirk Seufert and Sarah Kaufman will hold an exhibition and reception of their works in the Janet Levine March gallery located in the Gordon Jewish Community Center.

A reception for the artists will be held from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 4.

These exhibits will be displayed in the Gordon Jewish Community Center throughout the month of August.

Mic opens at “Tunesmithing off Music Row” event

'Tunesmithing Off Music Row' will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Casablanca Cafe located at 602 12th Ave. S. at Icon in the Gulch.

Open Mic will be held from 6:30-7 p.m., followed by a Songwriter Showcase from 7-9 p.m. featuring professional singer-songwriter-instructor Deanna Walker along with Mike Cullison, Gordon Ellis and Dianne Ticknor

Performers will do individual sets, presenting 25 minutes of original music.

Writers may sign up on a first-come, first-served basis, performing up to two original songs.

Admission is free. "Tunesmithing" is sponsored by Whiting Publicity & Promotions.

RecruitMilitary Expo to be held at LP Field

The RecruitMilitary Opportunity Expo will take place from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug.5, 2010 at LP Field located at 1 Titans Way.

More than 300 veterans are expected to attend this special event, which is intended to help our recently returning troops and other veterans and service members, and their spouses with employment, entrepreneurship and educational opportunities.

Veterans will be able to interview with an all-star team of national, regional and local employers at the RecruitMilitary Opportunity Expo. This event is produced in cooperation with The American Legion, Purple Heart Services and the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN).
