Scott Augenbaum, special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), was the guest speaker at Fridrich & Clark Realty’s September 5th sales meeting. Over his twenty- nine year career with the FBI, his work has been primarily in computer crime investigations. In 2003, he was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent at FBI Headquarters, Washington D.C. in the Cyber Division, Cyber Crime Fraud Unit and was responsible for managing the FBI’s Cyber Task Force Program and Intellectual Pro- perty Rights Program. Currently he is assigned to the FBI Memphis Division Computer Intrusion/Counter intelligence Squad located in Nashville.
Agents in attendance learned about the emerging computer threats in the real estate industry and how to prevent themselves or their clients from becoming a victim of such actions. He shared the importance of being on guard, to think before one clicks, to have a backup system and two-step protected passwords.
