Nashville-based Software as a Service company Edgenet has named Alex Panzano as senior vice president of strategy. His expertise will further enhance Edgenet’s reputation as an authority in delivering consumer-empowering tech innovations to re-tailers and brands. Edgenet also recently hired Mikael Solomon, formerly of Salsify, as its vice president of product.

Panzano, formerly of Lowe’s, brings a comprehensive knowledge of big-box retailers and their strategy for delivering a full omnichannel experience to consumers in the face of competition from online-only merchants.
At Lowe’s, Panzano served as business planning and alignment leader for C-suite executives. He was a key player in Lowe’s current effort to transform their retail experience through greater integration with high-quality online product content.

While at Lowe’s, Panzano also led numerous strategy, technology and performance improvement efforts for core U.S. home improvement and new business development programs. His ac- complishments include implementing a “center of excellence” for master data management and spearheading several large initiatives regarding item data management, GTIN and data content for commerce.

The Tennessee Society of CPAs recently announced the election of its 2017-2018 Nashville Chapter officers and the appointment of nine local CPAs who will chair statewide committees.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Robert Coffey Jr., M.D., Ingram Professor of Cancer Research and professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt Univer- sity Medical Center (VUMC), has re-ceived an Outstand-ing Investigator Award from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) — more than $6.6 million over seven years — to support studies aimed at advancing the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC), a leading cancer killer.

Coffey is one of 27 researchers nationwide to receive Outstand-ing Investigator Awards in the second round of the NCI program. The grant will enable him and his colleagues to continue developing novel approaches to study the role that the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays in the pathogenesis of many human cancers, including CRC.

Daryl Granner, M.D., professor of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, emeritus, at Vander- bilt, has been recognized for outstanding achievements in diabetes research and training by the American Diabetes Association.

Granner, who led and expanded the Vanderbilt Diabetes Research and Training Center  (DRTC) during much of the 1990s, is the recipient of the association’s 2017 Albert Renold Award, named for the pioneering diabetes researcher who died in 1988.

He will receive the award in San Diego this month during the association’s 77th Scientific Sessions, the world’s largest scientific meeting focused on diabetes research, prevention and care.
